Neguim vinha se tratando de uma cirrose hepática já alguns anos mas a doença evoluiu causando o óbito.
O fígado, maior órgão do corpo humano, é essencial em manter o organismo funcionando adequadamente. Ele remove ou neutraliza toxinas do sangue, produz agentes imunológicos para controlar infecções e remove germes e bactérias da circulação. Além disto, produz proteínas que regulam a coagulação do sangue e produz bile para ajudar na absorção de gorduras e vitaminas. A vida não é possível sem um fígado funcionante.
Na cirrose, um tecido fibroso substitui o tecido hepático normal, bloqueando o fluxo sanguíneo através do órgão e impedindo que o fígado exerça suas funções como deveria. A cirrose é uma doença com altos custos em termos de sofrimento, perda de produtividade e tratamento.
